My wife, Becky, and I recently added some stone work to the front of our house. Unfortunately for us it looked so good it made the rest of the house look pretty bad; so we decided we needed a few upgrades. Our neighbors suggested that the seventeen year old garage door, that had never been painted might be a good place to start. I think ours might have been one of the few original doors left in the neighborhood. A real classic.Well, Becky wanted to stick with the tried and true metal roll up garage door but I'm a man of adventure. The road not taken, that's the road for me. I'd seen a display for some beautiful wooden garage doors down at Home Depot and I was determined to get one of those. Whew, what a difference in price. We were figuring about $1,000 dollars for a metal door, maybe a little more, but the wooden doors were closer to $4000 dollars or more depending on options and the species of wood. Plus installation. Plus finishing of the door. Plus a new heavy duty garage door opener. By the time Becky finished punching in the numbers we were looking at about $6,000. No problem, I've always fancied a second career in Slurpee fabrication.
I like to think that my sense of style won the day but it may have had more to do with my threats of withholding connubial bliss, either that or the constant drip…drip…drip… of my begging and pleading caused Becky to finally give in. That's when our adventure with CLOPAY began, a company so large it no longer needs customers.
